
NYC Braces for a Major Winter Storm
New York City and the Tri-State area are preparing for a significant winter storm bringing 2-4 inches of snow to the city and 4-8 inches to the north and west, followed by the coldest temperatures in two years. A snow alert is in effect.

The Department of Sanitation will begin preparations at midnight Sunday, deploying plows and over 20 million pounds of salt. Sidewalk clearing is the responsibility of property owners, with fines for non-compliance. Alternate Side Parking rules are suspended on Monday, January 20th.
Snow Removal Timetable for NYC Residents:
- Snow stops between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.: Clear sidewalks within 4 hours
- Snow stops between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.: Clear sidewalks within 14 hours
- Snow stops between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.: Clear sidewalks by 11 a.m.
Tri-State Area Preparations
Similar warnings and preparations are underway in New York State, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Governors Hochul and Lamont urge residents to take precautions and stay safe. Connecticut has activated its severe cold weather protocol.
Dangerous Cold and Homelessness
Mayor Adams urges residents to call 311 for heating issues. Shelters are available for the homeless, and officials encourage New Yorkers to check on their neighbors.
