NYC Thanksgiving Travel Alert: Powerful Winter Storm Incoming!

Millions are set to travel for Thanksgiving, and a potent winter storm is brewing, bringing the potential for heavy snow and strong winds to parts of New York State. While NYC itself might see mostly rain (1-2 inches, with potential for 2-3 inches locally), higher elevations, particularly in Northeast Pennsylvania and the Catskills, could see up to a foot of snow.

Snow Forecast: Heavy Accumulation Expected

The FOX Forecast Center predicts impactful snow, especially in the Allegheny Mountains, with snowfall rates potentially reaching 1-3+ inches per hour in some areas. Winter Storm Watches and Warnings are in effect for various parts of New York and Pennsylvania. Computer models suggest some areas could receive a foot or more of snow.

NYC Snow Prediction: Less Than Average?

While this week's storm isn't expected to bring snow to NYC, the overall winter forecast predicts around 20 inches of snow for the city—below the average of 28 inches. The lower Hudson Valley might see slightly more, with 20-25 inches expected. Historically, the first measurable snowfall in NYC occurs around December 13th.
