NYC Subway Power Outage Strands Thousands
A major power outage in Brooklyn caused significant disruptions to multiple subway lines on Wednesday night. The incident, affecting the A, C, and F lines, left thousands of passengers stranded.
What Happened?
The MTA reported a power loss between the Jay Street-MetroTech and Hoyt-Schermerhorn stations. This resulted in:
- A train suspensions: Between Chambers Street in Manhattan and Broadway Junction in Brooklyn.
- C train delays: In both directions.
- F train rerouting: Most F trains ran on the D line between West 4th Street and Coney Island.
Approximately 3,500 passengers were evacuated from two stalled F trains. The power outage lasted several hours, beginning at 5:29 p.m. and concluding with the completion of evacuations at 8:20 p.m.
MTA Response & Investigation
NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow released a statement thanking the emergency responders for their swift action during the evacuations. He noted that fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported. The MTA is working with Con Edison to investigate the cause of the outage and prevent future incidents. Con Edison has indicated that power should be restored, allowing for a resumption of normal service.
