NYC Shook! Earthquake Tremors Felt Across the City
On Saturday night, a 3.0 magnitude earthquake in Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen County, New Jersey, sent tremors rippling across parts of New Jersey and New York, including NYC and the Lower Hudson Valley. This is the second earthquake to hit New Jersey in under two weeks.

While relatively weak, the quake's effects were felt up to 65 miles away, reaching western Connecticut and the Lower Hudson Valley. Many New York City residents reported feeling the shaking.
Thankfully, no damage has been reported, but aftershocks are possible.

This earthquake follows a series of smaller quakes near Morris Plains, NJ, in July. The largest of those quakes registered a 2.0 magnitude.
New Jersey's Seismic Activity
While not known for major seismic events, New Jersey has an active fault line (Ramapo Fault) causing several minor quakes annually. However, a significant 4.8 magnitude earthquake last year in Tewksbury, NJ, caused damage in New Jersey and was felt as far as Maine and Virginia. That quake was followed by over 205 aftershocks.
