Hundreds Gather in Union Square to Support Palestinians
On Labor Day, hundreds of people gathered in Manhattan's Union Square to show their support for the Palestinian people. The demonstration, organized by the group Within Our Lifetime, was part of a nationwide movement calling for solidarity with Palestinians.
The group also used the protest to raise awareness about what they claim is discrimination against Palestinians in the tech and healthcare industries. In a flyer distributed at the rally, the group urged attendees to cover their faces to avoid NYPD surveillance and put their cellphones in airplane mode to prevent location tracking.
One protester explained their motivation, saying: "It's going on too long, and that's what brought me to fight for the Palestinians. I cannot be there with them, but I can help them from here."
Vigil Honors Israeli Hostages Killed in Gaza
This rally comes a day after hundreds gathered in Columbus Circle to remember the six hostages who were killed in Gaza over the weekend. The vigil was held to honor the victims, including 40-year-old Carmel Gat, whose funeral was held in Israel on Monday.
Gat's cousin, Maayan Shavit, spoke about the brutality of the killings: "Just brutally, brutally murdered them. They were all still tied. Some were shot, some were hit, some were pushed to the wall, and they ran away, instead of just leave them."
Fundraiser to Support Gaza Doctors and Medical Equipment
In addition to the rally, Within Our Lifetime is also hosting a fundraiser in the West Village from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday. The event aims to raise money for doctors in Gaza and to provide more medical equipment in the West Bank.
