New York's Political Heavyweights Converge at the Democratic National Convention

As the Democratic National Convention (DNC) unfolds in Chicago this week, New York's political scene is well-represented. Governor Kathy Hochul, aiming to solidify her leadership, is set to deliver a keynote address alongside prominent national figures like President Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. This spotlight will likely showcase New York's influence and underscore the Democratic Party's priorities.

Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries, the top Democrats in Congress, will also grace the stage. Other notable New York attendees include Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Lieutenant Governor Antonio Delgado, Attorney General Letitia James, and Democratic Party Chair Jay Jacobs.

NYC's Mayor and Council Members Join the Convention

Mayor Eric Adams will be present on Wednesday and Thursday, using the platform to address critical issues facing New York City, including the ongoing migrant crisis.

Several New York delegates with their eyes on higher office will be attending, including Comptroller Brad Lander and Senator Zellnor Myrie, who are both vying for the Mayor's seat in the upcoming Democratic primary. Additionally, Assembly Member Jenifer Rajkumar, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, and Council Member Justin Brannan, all running for City Comptroller, will be in attendance.

Labor Leaders and Lobbyists Also Present

Beyond elected officials, prominent labor leaders like Randi Weingarten of the American Federation of Teachers and Mario Cilento of the New York State AFL-CIO, will be representing their respective organizations. Several influential lobbyists will also be present, including Patrick B. Jenkins and Emily Giske of Bolton-St. Johns.

While former Governor Andrew Cuomo is not expected to attend, his sister and possible landlord, Maria Cuomo Cole, will be among the New York delegates.
