NYC Pet Stores Banned from Selling Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits!

NYC Cracks Down on Puppy Mills: Pet Store Ban Takes Effect

Starting December 15th, pet stores in New York State will be prohibited from selling dogs, cats, and rabbits. This ban aims to combat the cruel practices of large-scale breeding operations known as puppy mills.

Attorney General Letitia James stated that animals from these mills often suffer from serious health issues, leading to heartbreak and financial burdens for families. The ban seeks to end the pipeline of mistreated animals from puppy mills to pet stores.

Licensed pet dealers who violate the ban face penalties of up to $1,000 per offense. However, pet stores can still partner with registered, non-profit animal rescue organizations to facilitate adoptions.
