NYC Museum Showcases the Most Expensive Dinosaur Fossil Ever!

The American Museum of Natural History is thrilled to unveil "Apex", a remarkably complete stegosaurus fossil that's also the most expensive dinosaur ever sold, fetching a staggering $70 million at auction. Standing at an impressive 3.3 meters tall and 8.2 meters long, Apex is a true giant of the prehistoric world.

Billionaire Ken Griffin, a long-time museum donor, purchased Apex and generously allowed its long-term loan to the museum. This incredible opportunity allows scientists to conduct extensive research on this scientifically significant specimen, including CT scans of its skull and analysis of its bone structure.

Why is Apex So Important?

Apex is not only visually stunning but also holds immense scientific value. Estimated to be about 80% complete, it's one of the most complete stegosaurus fossils ever discovered, offering unprecedented insights into these majestic creatures that roamed North America 150 million years ago during the Jurassic period. Its relatively advanced age at death provides invaluable data about stegosaurus metabolism and bone growth.

The museum's paleontologists are eager to delve into this scientific goldmine, advancing our understanding of these fascinating dinosaurs. The research findings will be shared with the scientific community, making Apex a remarkable contribution to paleontological knowledge.

This extraordinary fossil is currently on display in a giant atrium at the museum's entrance before moving to the permanent fossil halls next year. Don't miss this unique opportunity to witness this remarkable piece of history!
