NYC Mayor's Rapper Son Spent 9/11 Recording Music While City Honors Victims

NYC Mayor's Son Records Music on 9/11 While City Honors Victims
While bereaved families, dignitaries, and first responders gathered in lower Manhattan to mark the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, NYC Mayor Eric Adams' son, Jordan Coleman, had a different agenda. Coleman, a rapper known as Jayoo, chose to spend the day recording music inside Gracie Mansion, the Mayor's official residence.
Coleman's music features drill rap, a genre that Mayor Adams has publicly condemned for its association with street violence. His decision to record music on such a solemn day, while others honored the victims, has drawn criticism.

Coleman later attended a concert by rapper Jeezy, documenting his activities on Instagram. The radio host who accompanied him described the night as an “All Access” show after “the 9/11 sessions at Gracie.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Adams, who was battling COVID-19, chose not to attend the 9/11 ceremony, instead hanging a wreath outside Gracie Mansion in honor of the fallen.

Adams' absence, alongside other high-ranking officials who have been named in federal investigations, was notable in the context of the memorial ceremony.
