NYC Democratic Mayoral Primary: A Close Race
The New York City Democratic mayoral primary is heating up! On June 24th, New Yorkers went to the polls to choose their next mayor from a crowded field of candidates. While early results are in, the race is far from over. This is because of the city's ranked-choice voting system.

- Zohran Mamdani: A state Assembly member who's shown surprising strength in recent polls.
- Andrew Cuomo: The former Governor, aiming for a political comeback.
Ranked-Choice Voting:
Because no single candidate is likely to secure over 50% of the vote, the ranked-choice voting system will be used. This means that candidates with the fewest votes will be eliminated in rounds until only two remain. The final results are expected by July 1st.
Where to Watch the Results:
- Spectrum News: Live coverage on their website and app starting at 8 a.m. ET. Available to non-subscribers as well.
- PBS News: A live results tracker will provide updates as vote totals come in from the New York City Board of Elections.
The stakes are high; the Democratic primary winner is virtually guaranteed to win the general election in November.
