NYC Mayoral Hopeful Mamdani Seeks Key Endorsements Amidst Controversy
Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is vying for crucial endorsements from prominent Democrats, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, ahead of the November election. This comes amidst ongoing controversy surrounding Mamdani's stances on Israel.

A subsequent meeting with Schumer is also anticipated, but the date remains unconfirmed. Their differing views on Israel are expected to be a major factor in Schumer's decision. Schumer, a Jewish Democrat, is a strong supporter of Israel and has condemned the BDS movement, while Mamdani, a Muslim Democrat, has been a vocal critic of Israel and supports BDS.
Mamdani's past statements, including his reluctance to affirm Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state and his initial refusal to condemn the phrase "globalize the intifada", have drawn significant criticism. He has recently attempted to distance himself from the latter phrase.
Despite the controversy, Mamdani has secured the endorsement of Representative Jerry Nadler. He's also garnered support from Representative Ro Khanna, who described him as "a very charismatic, relatable person."
Mamdani's campaign faces stiff competition from former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and current Mayor Eric Adams, both running as independents, along with Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
