NYC Mayor Adams Holds Exclusive Housing Summit: Inside the Fight to Address the City's Housing Crisis

New York City Mayor Eric Adams hosted a quarterly housing summit, bringing together city officials and housing advocates to discuss solutions to the city's ongoing housing and homelessness crisis. This exclusive meeting, usually closed to the press, allowed PIX11 News a rare glimpse into the discussions.

The summit, known as the Impacted Advocates Meeting, is a platform for open and honest dialogue. Housing advocates, including the founder of a non-profit organization Kadisha Davis, shared their experiences and concerns, providing valuable insight into the challenges faced by New Yorkers.

The discussion covered key topics such as the need for increased youth involvement in decision-making regarding housing policy and protections for families against discrimination related to housing vouchers.

Mayor Adams emphasized his commitment to the City of Yes housing plan, which aims to create 109,000 new homes in the next 15 years by addressing discriminatory zoning laws. This ambitious plan seeks to address the decades-long legacy of unfair housing practices.

The housing working group will reconvene at the end of the year. For more information about the City of Yes housing plan, visit housingopportunity.nyc.
