NYC Marathon: Defending Champions Aim for Back-to-Back Wins
The New York City Marathon is set to be a thrilling event this November, with defending champions Tamirat Tola and Hellen Obiri looking to repeat their victories.
Tola, fresh off his Olympic record-breaking performance in Paris, is eager to defend his title on the challenging New York course.
Obiri is also excited to be back in New York, citing it as one of her favorite races.
The men's field features a strong lineup with past champions Geoffrey Kamworor, Albert Korir, and Evans Chebet. Belgian Bashir Abdi and American runners Conner Mantz and Clayton Young add to the competition.
The women's field boasts past champions Sharon Lokedi and Edna Kiplagat, alongside American stars Des Linden, Aliphine Tuliamuk, and Jenny Simpson.
Marcel Hug and Manuela SchΓ€r, who have nine New York City Marathon wins between them, headline the wheelchair field.
Tola will be looking to join Peres Jepchirchir as the only runners to win an Olympic gold medal and the NYC marathon in the same year. Jepchirchir achieved this feat in 2021, becoming the first person to win the Olympics, New York City, and Boston marathons in their career.
The New York City Marathon has been held since 1970 and attracted over 50,000 runners last year.
