NYC Man Charged with Murder After Hit-and-Run Kills 16-Year-Old Girl
A 38-year-old New York City man, Edwin Cruz Gomez, has been charged with murder after intentionally striking three people with his car, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old girl. The incident occurred early Saturday morning outside the Prima Donna Restaurant in Queens.

A subsequent altercation led to Gomez driving his Chevrolet Suburban into the victims, pinning the 16-year-old, Jhoanny Alvarez, against a pole. The girl's mother was injured, while her stepfather and boyfriend were also struck. Gomez then fled the scene but was later apprehended.
His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.137%, exceeding the legal limit. Gomez faces charges of murder, attempted murder, assault, vehicular manslaughter, and other related crimes. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 19th and could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated that they will seek justice for the victim and her family.
