NYC ICE Director: Thousands of Migrant Criminals Roaming the Streets – A Lifetime to Deport?

Thousands of Migrant Criminals Roaming NYC Streets, Says ICE Director

The head of ICE's New York City field office, Kenneth Genalo, has issued a stark warning: there are thousands of migrant criminals roaming the streets of the city. In his first interview since the election of Donald Trump, Genalo stated that clearing the city of these criminals would "take a lifetime" under the current conditions.

He emphasized the need for additional resources to address the issue. Genalo also revealed that the number of migrant criminals in the city is in the thousands, and that the majority of crimes committed are against vulnerable groups, including migrant women and children. He expressed frustration with New York's sanctuary laws, which he believes shield criminals from deportation.

Genalo plans to testify before the City Council to highlight the damaging effects of these policies.

The Impact of Sanctuary Laws

Genalo argues that the situation drastically worsened when Bill de Blasio became mayor. In 2014, a law was passed barring the NYPD from cooperating with federal immigration officials in deporting dangerous migrants. This, along with further restrictions in 2018, has had severe consequences.

The murder of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, allegedly by an illegal migrant previously released from custody, is cited as a tragic example of the potential ramifications of these policies. Critics suggest that Riley might still be alive if the sanctuary laws were not in effect.

While Mayor Eric Adams has called for loosening the sanctuary rules, he lacks the necessary political support on the City Council to enact change.

Genalo highlighted the mayor's awareness of the problem and his desire for federal assistance, emphasizing the urgent need for cooperation between the city and federal government to address this critical issue.
