NYC Housing Authority Employees Arrested in Gang Assault on Former Governor David Paterson
Former New York Governor and His Stepson Attacked
Police are reporting two more arrests in a gang assault that occurred on Manhattan's Upper East Side, targeting former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa. The incident took place on Friday night at Second Avenue and 96th Street.
Paterson recounted the event, stating that he and his stepson were walking their dog when they noticed three individuals climbing a fire escape. They questioned the group, and 45 minutes later, upon returning to the area, encountered a larger crowd. Believing the group recognized his stepson from the previous encounter, the situation escalated to violence.
Over the weekend, Paterson and Sliwa's father, Guardian Angels founder and former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, spoke out about the attack. They expressed admiration for their bravery and stated that they did the right thing to protect themselves and each other.
Both Paterson and his stepson were treated and released from the hospital.
Two Adults Arrested in Addition to Juveniles
The NYPD had previously reported that two juveniles, ages 12 and 13, had turned themselves in to face charges in connection with the assault. Now, police have arrested two adults, Travor Nurse (40) and Diamond Minter (34), both employees of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). They are charged with gang assault. According to sources, neither has returned to work since the attack.
The Paterson family released a statement expressing relief at the adults' arrests and their hope that this incident can be put behind them quickly.
Juveniles Face Gang Assault Charges
The two juvenile suspects, whose names are not being released, are also facing gang assault charges. The Paterson family has expressed gratitude that the suspects turned themselves in and hope the young people learn from this experience.
