NYC Tragedy: Teen Girl Killed After Hit-and-Run
A horrific incident in Queens, NYC, has left a 16-year-old girl dead after being intentionally struck by an SUV.
The incident began with an argument between Edwin Cruz Gomez and a group including the victim, Jhoanny Alvarez, her mother, stepfather, and boyfriend. Gomez, along with others, allegedly propositioned Alvarez and her mother for sex, sparking a confrontation.

Alvarez died at the scene. Her mother sustained leg injuries. Gomez, with a BAC of .137%, fled but later turned himself in to police.
Gomez has been arraigned on charges including murder and attempted murder. He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
This tragic event highlights the dangers of drunk driving and the devastating consequences of violence.
Queens District Attorney's Statement
"The intoxicated defendant drove his SUV onto the sidewalk and took aim at the group of four," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz stated. "The defendant pinned the teen against a pole with his vehicle and injured her mother and stepfather as he barreled his 3-ton vehicle into them."
The investigation is ongoing, and Gomez is due back in court next week.
