NYC Holds Charity Basketball Game for Israeli Hostage on His Birthday in Captivity
NYC Basketball Game Honors Israeli Hostage Held in Gaza
On Sunday, a charity basketball game was held in New York City to support Omer Neutra, an Israeli hostage from Long Island who will be spending his 23rd birthday in captivity. The event, held at Ramaz Middle School on the Upper East Side, aimed to raise funds for Omer's family's efforts to secure the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza.
Friends and family, wearing shirts with Omer's name and favorite number, gathered to celebrate the young man they describe as a source of joy and positivity. They expressed their deep sorrow and frustration at his prolonged captivity and the lack of international outrage.
Omer Neutra was captured by Hamas on October 7, 2023, just before his 22nd birthday. His family last spoke to him on the eve of the attack. Omer, a former IDF soldier, had deferred his enrollment at SUNY Binghamton to serve his country.
The event was a heartfelt tribute to Omer's spirit, with participants expressing their hope for his safe return. The funds raised from ticket sales and merchandise will go towards continuing the Neutra family's advocacy for the release of all hostages.
Omer's birthday is on Monday, and his family plans to spend the day together quietly, holding onto hope and remembering the young man who brought so much light to their lives.
