High school students in NYC can now ride the ferry for a discounted price of $1.45, a significant savings from the regular fare of $4.50. The discount program, which went into effect on Sunday, is available to all students in grades 9-12, regardless of their school type or income.

This initiative, spearheaded by City Council Member Amanda Farías, aims to make the ferry system more accessible to students, especially those attending the Harbor School on Governors Island, where students previously had to take additional ferries to reach the school.

To apply for the discount program, parents need to create or log into their NYC Student Account (NYCSA) and request a discount code under NYC Ferry. This code can then be used within the NYC Ferry app or at the Wall Street/Pier 11 ticketing window.

Farías emphasizes that the program benefits not only the students but also their families by easing the financial burden. She will be hosting an in-person sign-up event at the Soundview Ferry Terminal in the Bronx on September 4th to raise awareness about the program.
