NYC Haunted House Shut Down as 'Death Trap' by FDNY: Will Reopen This Weekend?

NYC Haunted House Deemed a 'Death Trap' by FDNY
The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) shut down a popular haunted house in Queens, NY, labeling it a "death trap." "A Haunting in Hollis" was closed after the Bureau of Fire Prevention discovered numerous safety violations.
FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker stated, "We want everyone to enjoy Halloween, it's a great holiday, but we want them to do it safely, and that is a death trap that we came upon."
The violations included:
- Three illegally constructed staircases
- Blocked exit routes
- Removed fireproofing materials
The haunted house, which has been operating since 2002, has been featured on "The Nick Cannon Show" in 2021.
Haunted House Plans to Reopen Despite Safety Concerns
Despite the FDNY's closure, the haunted house has announced plans to reopen by October 18th. In an Instagram post, they apologized for the inconvenience and stated they are working to meet the safety requirements of the Department of Buildings and FDNY.
The haunted house has issued refunds for outstanding tickets and their website currently shows no future availability.
A lawsuit was filed against the haunted house on October 2nd by Solainne Moncero-Tannis, who claims she broke both ankles during a 2023 visit.
This incident raises concerns about the safety of other attractions during Halloween season. The FDNY emphasizes the importance of ensuring safe and enjoyable festivities.
