NYC State Test Scores Are In, But City-Wide Data Is Still Pending

New York City families can now access their child's individual state test scores from last year, but broader city-wide data won't be released until the fall.

The scores were delivered to schools just weeks before the start of the new school year. This preliminary data can be a helpful tool for schools and districts as they plan for the year ahead, informing instructional decisions and individual student learning plans.

Each spring, third through eighth graders take standardized exams in reading and math. Fifth and eighth graders also take a science exam. These test scores offer one perspective on student progress.

Statewide results:

  • 46% of students in traditional public and charter schools in grades 3-8 scored proficient or above in English.
  • 52% scored proficient or above in math.
  • 35% of fifth and eighth graders scored proficient or above in science.

These are just preliminary figures and are subject to change. The final data is expected to be released in November.

The 2024 exams were the second batch to be aligned with the state's Next Generation Learning Standards. Schools across the city and state have also been increasingly adopting computer-based testing. This year, all of New York City's fifth and eighth graders took their exams digitally.

Families can view their child's individual test scores through their NYC Schools Account. You will need your child's student identification number and an account creation code provided by the school to set up an account.

While this individual data is available, the city-wide data release will provide a broader picture of student performance and help analyze trends in education within New York City.
