NYC Dodges Major Flooding From Tropical Storm Debby, But Strong Winds and Airport Delays Remain
NYC Weathers Tropical Storm Debby's Aftermath: Strong Winds and Airport Delays Remain
While Tropical Storm Debby has largely exited New York City, its aftermath continues to cause disruptions, particularly at airports. Strong winds, reaching up to 40 mph across the five boroughs, persist despite the storm's weakening.
Flash floods initially hit Northern Pennsylvania and Southern New York state, prompting evacuations in some areas. However, the flood threat has diminished, and evacuation orders have been lifted in most areas.
New York City experienced light rain and strong winds from the storm, but thankfully, the city avoided the heavy rainfall and flooding that impacted other parts of the country. Debby brought heavy rainfall and tornadoes to Northern and Southern California, leading to 8 deaths in the Eastern part of the US.
JFK and LaGuardia airports have experienced numerous flight delays, with some flights pushed back by as much as four hours. Travelers should expect continued delays and disruptions as the storm's remnants continue to affect the region.
The National Hurricane Center has downgraded Debby to a post-tropical cyclone, and the storm is expected to blow out in the sea Saturday afternoon.
FOX Weather meteorologist Christopher Tate reassured residents, stating that the remaining rain in the metro area will be brief and minimal flooding is expected.
