NYC Democrat Speed Dating Event Sabotaged by Trump Supporter

A Trump supporter disrupted a Manhattan dating event for Democrats, leaving love-seeking lefties out of luck. The event, organized by Single and The City, was scheduled to take place on September 18th at The Rose on West 25th Street in Chelsea, the same day as Trump's rally on Long Island.

The facilitator received a phone call from a blocked number shortly before the event was set to begin. The caller, a Trump supporter, allegedly said: “F your snowflake event, we’re not coming, we’re all at the Trump rally.”

The saboteur had purchased several male tickets, skewing the ratios and making mingling awkward. Attendee Keith Burgun, a game developer, described the scene: “When I got there it was just me, one other guy and about 10 women.”

Attendees were shocked and found the situation to be a reflection of the polarized political landscape. “We kind of shook our heads and said, ‘How polarized are we that someone would do something this unhinged,'” said Denisha McPherson, a project manager from Brooklyn.

Organizers had to adjust the event format. Instead of quick dates, attendees sat in a circle and discussed dating experiences and preferences. “So we all just sat in a circle and basically had a little discussion,” Burgun explained.

This was the first political speed dating event for Single and The City. They also hosted a GOP Speed Dating event on September 25th. Both events were for singles aged 30 to 45, and tickets cost $35.

The organizers are planning more political speed dating events, including another Date a Dem on October 16th and GOP Speed Dating on October 23rd, this time for singles in their 20s and 30s.

While the GOP dating event had better attendance, the organizers believe the Democratic event’s sabotage reflects the difficulty Democrats have in finding like-minded singles in New York City.
