New York City is preparing for its first snowfall of the season, with 1 to 3 inches of snow expected on Monday. Southern New Jersey, however, is bracing for a much larger storm, potentially receiving 5 to 8 inches of snow.

According to Fox Weather meteorologist Cody Braud, southern New Jersey will likely experience accumulating snow by midday and afternoon on Monday. The storm will move north and east from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, bringing significant snowfall to areas further south in the Mid-Atlantic region.

NYC, Long Island, and northern New Jersey are predicted to receive between a coating and 3 inches of snow, with the possibility of no accumulation at all.

Temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-20s overnight, with wind chill potentially making it feel even colder. Highs will remain around freezing for several days.

Meanwhile, Upstate New York is expected to receive up to 16 inches of lake-effect snow in the Syracuse and Utica areas.

The snowfall in NYC could end as early as midday, or persist throughout the day and into Tuesday.
