NYC Braces for Major Anti-Israel Protests on Anniversary of Deadly Hamas Attack

NYC on High Alert for Anti-Israel Protests on Oct. 7 Anniversary
New York City is preparing for widespread anti-Israel protests planned for the one-year anniversary of the devastating Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which killed over 1,200 people in Israel. The protests are expected to be particularly large on Monday, October 7th, with multiple organizations, including the National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP), calling for demonstrations.
One of the most outspoken anti-Israel groups, “Within Our Lifetime” (WOL), has urged protestors to “flood New York City for Palestine” in a show of solidarity. WOL is known for its strong advocacy and organized a large protest outside the Loews Regency Hotel last week where Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was staying.
The planned protests come amid heightened tensions following Iran's unprecedented missile attack on Israel. Some NYU students, though not directly connected to the region, have expressed intentions to attend the protests to “experience [them] for themselves.”
The NYPD has announced increased security measures, including extra patrols and a “zero tolerance” policy for any illegal activity during the protests. They are working with various levels of law enforcement to ensure public safety.
Protests are anticipated at various locations across the city including:
- Wall Street
- City Hall
- Washington Square Park
- Union Square
- Grand Central
- Times Square
- Columbus Circle
These protests are sure to be a major event in the city, and the NYPD is prepared to maintain order and security throughout the demonstrations.
