NYC and Philly Brace for Flooding as Tropical Storm Debby's Moisture Hits Northeast

Northeast Braces for Flooding from Tropical Storm Debby

Tropical Storm Debby, which left at least five people dead in Florida and Georgia, is now impacting the Northeast, with tens of millions of people facing a significant flood threat.

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for over 15 million people in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. While New York City is not currently included in the watch, the threat of severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, and flash flooding remains high.

The FOX Forecast Center predicts a combination of a cold front sweeping across the Northeast and deep tropical moisture from Debby will create severe thunderstorms and heavy precipitation along the East Coast.

Flash flooding is a major concern, with areas like New York City, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg in Pennsylvania facing a Level 3 out of 4 risk. A Flood Watch is in effect through at least Wednesday for northern Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, most of New Jersey, New York City, and southern Connecticut.

Through Sunday, several inches of rain are expected, with the highest totals along the Interstate 95 corridor from the mid-Atlantic to the Northeast. Rainfall totals of 5-8 inches are anticipated, with locally higher amounts possible.
