On Friday night, Stewart Airfield in Orange County, New York, experienced a one-hour shutdown due to mysterious drone activity. New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared, "This has gone too far." This incident follows weeks of drone sightings across New Jersey and surrounding states, prompting investigations by the FBI and other agencies.

The FBI has received over 3,000 tips, mostly regarding nighttime sightings. Authorities emphasize that, so far, there's no evidence of a public safety threat or foreign involvement. However, both Governor Hochul and New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy are urging the federal government for more resources and legal authority to address these incidents. Governor Hochul has called on Congress to pass the Counter-UAS Authority Security, Safety, and Reauthorization Act, which would expand state police investigation powers. Governor Murphy has written to President Biden requesting additional federal aid.

Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump advocated for shooting down the drones, questioning the government's response and suggesting potential information withholding.

The situation remains under investigation, with concerns mounting about the airspace security and the unknown source of the drones.
