
NYC 2025 Begins with Double Homicide
The new year in New York City began tragically with two murders early Wednesday morning. One man was fatally slashed in Harlem, while another was shot dead in the Bronx.
Harlem Homicide: Fatal Slashing
Around 4:21 a.m., near West 137th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem, police discovered an unidentified man with a severe neck wound. He was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital. A 39-year-old man was taken into custody for questioning, and charges are pending.
The motive for this attack remains under investigation.
Bronx Shooting: Double Victim
Approximately an hour later, at 5:23 a.m., a shooting occurred at an apartment building on East 170th Street in the Bronx. 46-year-old Mario Fowler, a resident of the building, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs and later died at St. Barnabas Hospital. A 23-year-old man was also found with a graze wound and is in stable condition.
Police believe both victims were injured in the same shooting outside the building. The motive remains unknown, and no arrests have been made.
2024 Crime Statistics
According to NYPD data from December 29, 2024, there were 375 murders citywide, representing a 3.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2023. The 32nd Precinct (Harlem) saw nine homicides in 2024, and the 44th Precinct (Bronx) reported sixteen murders.
