NYC 2025 Mayoral Primary: Early Results & What to Expect

The 2025 New York City mayoral primary election is underway! While initial results are in, showing zero votes reported for all candidates across all boroughs at this early stage, we can still break down what to expect in the coming days.

Democratic Primary

The Democratic primary features several notable candidates: Andrew M. Cuomo, Zohran Mamdani, Brad Lander, and Scott M. Stringer. Currently, all candidates show 0% vote share in the first round of votes. Ranked-choice voting will likely be necessary and the final tallies are expected next Tuesday.

More than 90 percent of the city’s votes in the 2024 presidential election were counted by midnight on Election Day. Only the first round of ranked-choice votes are expected tonight.
