The Hellenic Film Society USA is thrilled to announce the return of the NY Greek Film Expo, a premier celebration of Greek cinema set to take place from October 8–18, 2026. This year’s event promises an immersive experience featuring 12 films, special guest appearances, Q&A sessions, and a dedicated tribute to master filmmaker Michael Cacoyannis.
Hosted by acclaimed Greek actress Katia Goulioni, the Expo showcases the best of contemporary Greek filmmaking alongside historical classics. Screenings will be held across five prestigious venues in New York and New Jersey:
- DGA Theater (Manhattan)
- Village East by Angelika (Manhattan)
- Melrose Ballroom (Long Island City, Queens)
- Museum of the Moving Image (Astoria, Queens)
- Barrymore Film Center (Fort Lee, NJ)
Key Highlights & Schedule
The festival kicks off on Thursday, October 8, with the Opening Night film, Hold Onto Me, directed by Myrsini Aristidou. This Sundance Award-winning drama will feature a Q&A with the director and lead actor Christos Passalis at the DGA Theater.
Friday, October 9, brings Yannis Economides’ Broken Vein to Village East Cinemas, followed by a writer Q&A.
Saturday, October 10, is packed with screenings at Village East, including:
- Life in a Beat (Director Amerissa Basta)
- Patty is Such a Girly Name (Director Giorgos Georgopoulos)
Sunday, October 11, continues the marathon at Village East with three distinct films:
- Rooster (Director Tassos Gerakinis)
- Last Call (Director Sherif Francis)
- Receptions (Director Filippos Tsitos)
On Tuesday, October 13, Hold Onto Me returns for a screening at the Barrymore Film Center in Fort Lee, NJ.
A unique special event takes place on Wednesday, October 14, at the Melrose Ballroom in Long Island City. The screening of Cavo Paradiso Mykonos: 30 Years of History (Director Adonis Theocharis Kioukas) will be followed by an after party featuring special guest DJ Ody Roc.
The final days of the Expo are dedicated to honoring the legacy of Michael Cacoyannis at the Museum of the Moving Image:
- Friday, October 16: Girl in Black
- Saturday, October 17: Zorba the Greek
- Sunday, October 18: Windfall in Athens and Stella
