Mom of Kidnapped New York Girl Speaks Out: One Year After Terrifying Ordeal

Trisha Sena, the mother of a 9-year-old girl kidnapped in upstate New York, is reflecting on the one-year anniversary of her daughter Charlotte's 47-hour disappearance. The harrowing incident unfolded during a family camping trip at Moreau Lake State Park in October 2023.

While riding bikes, Charlotte was approached by a man unknown to her who asked for help retrieving something from his truck. Despite being taught by her parents that adults shouldn't ask kids for help, Charlotte agreed. The man then forced her into the back of his truck and drove away.

Sena immediately called police, instinctively knowing something was wrong. A massive search ensued, and thankfully, 47 hours later, Charlotte was found safe. The man, Craig Nelson Ross, was apprehended after leaving a ransom note in the Sena family's mailbox.

A Year of Healing and Advocacy

The year since Charlotte's kidnapping has been incredibly difficult for the Sena family, but they are committed to moving forward and finding the positive. Sena and her sister, Jené, are using their experience to advocate for changes in Amber Alert laws and support for child abuse survivors. They have also started a podcast called "Sisterhood of the Survivors", where they share their stories and those of others.

Sena highlights the need for better protection of children. She points out that child abusers often receive lenient sentences, while their victims are left to live with the trauma.

The Sena family's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of vigilance and advocating for stronger protections for children. Their resilience and commitment to helping others navigate similar situations offer hope and inspiration.
