Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Faces Backlash for NYC Apartment Visit with Alex Soros

Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz has been the target of criticism after a picture surfaced of him with Alex Soros, the son of billionaire liberal mega donor George Soros, in his lavish New York City apartment.

Alex Soros, who has succeeded his father at the multibillion-dollar Open Society Foundations (OSF), posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, stating he was "honored to host Governor @Tim_Walz at my home in New York City!" along with pictures of himself and Walz in front of the New York City skyline.

Conservatives on social media quickly condemned the post, arguing that Walz's portrayal as a "rural" moderate is undermined by his association with one of the most prominent progressive families in the United States.

"If you squint, you can see the strings on the marionette," stated former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on X.

"A post like this does nothing to help Kamala Harris & Tim Walz win — if anything, it hurts them," commented journalist Jerry Dunleavy on X. "So why would Soros post something like this? To publicly signal his power & influence within the next would-be presidential administration."

"Real working man’s salt of the earth aesthetic for ol Walzy," tweeted Daily Caller editor-in-chief Geoffrey Ingersoll.

"This guy goes around saying he's a small town midwestern guy who understands the struggles of the middle class and then goes to hang out at the floating home in the sky of the world's biggest billionaire nepo baby," wrote digital strategist Greg Price on X.

"Nothing screams Midwestern folksy like a billionaire penthouse view of Manhattan," posted Washington Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross on X.

Not the First Time

This isn't the first time Walz and Alex Soros have been seen together. Photos from August during the DNC showed Soros, his new fiancée, Huma Abedin, and Walz hanging out in Chicago.

While Walz has been touted as a VP choice who can help Harris win rural voters, George Soros is a controversial figure often criticized by Republicans for pushing a far-left agenda with his wealth. This connection is raising eyebrows and further fueling criticism of Walz's political affiliations.
