During a Sunday visit to Emmanuel Presbyterian Reformed Church in the Bronx, Adams addressed the controversy, declaring, "I'm not going to resign, I'm going to reign."
Adams, who pleaded not guilty to the charges last week, continues to maintain his innocence, stating he is "ready to keep serving New Yorkers." He believes that these are challenging times for the city, and he intends to remain focused on his agenda.
The charges against Adams stem from allegations of accepting bribes and illegal campaign donations from Turkish nationals. Adams' attorney, Alex Spiro, has stated that these accusations are baseless and expects them to be dismissed.
While Adams maintains his innocence, the pressure on him to resign is mounting. Several political figures have called for his resignation, and Governor Kathy Hochul, who has the power to remove the mayor, has described the charges as a "very serious matter." However, Hochul has not yet indicated whether she will pursue the removal of Adams.
Adams remains engaged in dialogue with Hochul and intends to continue working with her despite the legal challenges he faces.
Adams is scheduled to appear in court this Wednesday to discuss the case further with the presiding judge.
