Massive Lake-Effect Snowstorm to Slam Parts of New York This Weekend!

NYC Braces for Massive Lake-Effect Snowstorm
Western and northwestern New York are bracing for a major lake-effect snowstorm this weekend, with some areas potentially seeing over 2 feet of snow. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo has issued a lake-effect snow warning from Friday morning through Monday evening.
Hardest Hit Areas
Counties expected to be hit the hardest include: Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis. These areas could see 2 to 3 feet of snowfall.
Travel Impacts
The NWS warns that travel will be very difficult, if not impossible, particularly during Friday's morning and evening commutes. Snowfall rates could exceed 2 inches per hour, making road clearing extremely challenging and potentially leading to major road closures, including interstates.
Authorities in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are urging people to delay post-Thanksgiving travel if possible.
Late Start to the Season
While this storm is bringing significant snowfall, the NWS notes that it's later than the average first lake-effect snow event of the season.
