Thousands March Against Trump's Return in NYC

On Inauguration Day, several thousand protesters took to the streets of Manhattan to demonstrate against President Donald Trump's return to office. The "We Fight Back" protest, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., saw participants marching peacefully along 6th Avenue from Washington Square Park to Macy's/Herald Square.

The demonstration, spanning several city blocks, voiced opposition to racism, poverty, militarism, and Trump's policies. A significant portion of the protest focused on pro-Palestinian sentiments, with signs calling for an end to U.S. aid to Israel and advocating for a free Palestine. Chants against imperialism and colonialism, along with demands for protection of immigrant families, were also prominent.

The NYPD maintained a presence throughout the protest, monitoring the march from vehicles, mopeds, and on foot. The event concluded peacefully around 3 p.m.

Nationwide Protests Against Trump's Inauguration

This NYC protest was part of a larger wave of demonstrations across the nation. Tens of thousands participated in "The People's March" in Washington D.C. the previous Saturday, organized by groups including Planned Parenthood and the Women's March, to oppose Trump's inauguration.

The organizers stated on their website that the protests were a response to the "openly authoritarian" nature of the incoming administration and its policies.

Recent Pro-Palestinian Protests in NYC

The Manhattan protest was one of many pro-Palestinian demonstrations in NYC following the October 7 attacks in Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza. Previous actions included a protest that stormed the Brooklyn Bridge and others that targeted NYC museums.

These events followed a previous incident where masked pro-Palestinian protestors took over a subway car and chanted slogans targeting Zionists, leading Governor Hochul to consider a subway mask ban.
