Long Island Murder-Suicide: Man Kills Siblings and Niece Over Fears of Being Cut Out of Will

Long Island Murder-Suicide: Family Dispute Turns Deadly
On Sunday, a horrifying murder-suicide took place in Syosset, Long Island, leaving five people dead. The gunman, identified as 59-year-old mechanic Joseph DeLucia Jr., shot and killed his three siblings and niece before taking his own life.
According to Nassau County police, DeLucia feared he would be left out of his family's will after his mother's recent death and would be forced to move out of the home he had lived in his entire life. He legally purchased a shotgun prior to the incident, citing his concerns about being displaced.
The victims were identified as JoAnne Kearns of Tampa, Florida; Frank DeLucia of Durham, North Carolina; Tina Hammond and her daughter, Victoria Hammond, of East Patchogue, New York.
DeLucia's siblings and niece had traveled to Long Island to sort out their mother's estate and were set to meet with a realtor to discuss the sale of the family home. DeLucia, who had been staying behind, allegedly became overwhelmed by his perceived displacement and carried out the tragic act.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of recognizing and addressing potential mental health issues, particularly in the wake of family loss and significant life changes.
