Apex, a towering 11-foot-high and 27-foot-long behemoth, was unearthed in Colorado in 2022. Its exceptional preservation, including signs of an advanced age for a Stegosaurus, makes it an extraordinary find.

Billionaire's Generous Loan

This incredible fossil was purchased for $44.6 million by billionaire Ken Griffin, making it the most expensive fossil ever sold at auction! Griffin, however, is generously loaning Apex to the museum for the next four years. A cast will replace the original after that period.

"We are thrilled to have Apex on view...and grateful to Ken Griffin for his commitment to sharing this magnificent specimen with the public," said Sean M. Decatur, president of the American Museum of Natural History. Griffin himself expressed hope that Apex will inspire wonder and encourage further research.
