I Moved Back to NYC After College and Felt Lost β Here's What I Learned
Returning Home, Feeling Like a Stranger
I grew up on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a place that felt familiar and comfortable. But after graduating from college upstate, moving back to the city felt different. The streets seemed the same, the people looked the same, and even though I was in the big city, it felt small. I was a stranger in my own hometown.
Rediscovering New York
Moving to Brooklyn, I felt even more lost. I realized that my childhood understanding of New York was limited. The city was constantly evolving, and I needed to explore it anew. I started taking walks, exploring different neighborhoods, and discovering hidden gems. I realized that home wasn't just about the place, it was about the experiences.
Home Can Evolve
New York became a canvas for me to paint my own experiences. From attending concerts and exploring gay bars to finding new restaurants and skate parks, I was rediscovering the city as an adult. I was no longer the kid from the Upper East Side, but a New Yorker forging my own path.
Embracing the Unknown
Three months later, I'm still discovering new parts of the city. I'm embracing the unfamiliar and learning that home can evolve alongside me. New York is a vast city with endless possibilities, and I'm excited to explore it all.
