Human Bones Found Near Brooklyn Carousel: Investigation Underway

New York City authorities are investigating after human bones were discovered twice this week near Jane's Carousel, a popular attraction in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The carousel, known for its spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge, has become a scene of unexpected mystery.

On Monday morning, a city parks department officer discovered a skull and other bones on the shoreline. Then, just after midnight on Wednesday, a femur was found in the same location, just feet away from the carousel.

The carousel itself is a piece of history, built in 1922 for an amusement park in Ohio and brought to Brooklyn in 2011 after extensive renovation. The surrounding DUMBO neighborhood is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful views and 19th-century brick warehouses.

The city medical examiner's office is now investigating the bones, working to determine whether they belong to the same person and how they ended up on the shoreline.

The discovery has raised questions about the safety and security of the waterfront area. The shoreline is a mix of rocky coves and piers, often collecting debris from the swift currents of the East River.

This investigation is ongoing, and we will provide updates as they become available.
