
Tragic Death Following Washington Heights Home Invasion
A 73-year-old man, Jacinto Remigo, tragically died after falling from a sixth-floor window during a home invasion in Washington Heights, near 161st Street and Broadway. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. on Saturday.
The Break-in
Three burglars broke into the apartment. One suspect entered through a window, having scaled a fire escape, before letting the other two inside. Inside, they tied up a 40-year-old man and stole a gold chain worth approximately $8,000 and $200 in cash.
The Fall
During the burglary, Mr. Remigo attempted to escape by climbing out of a window. He fell onto construction scaffolding below and sustained fatal injuries. He was transported to Harlem Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
A neighbor witnessed the event, stating that Mr. Remigo reached a small ledge trying to get to another window but was stopped by an air conditioner before he fell.
