NYC Airports Brace for Holiday Travel Rush
Over 5.2 million travelers are expected to pass through NYC's LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark airports this holiday season, a 3% increase from last year. This surge is part of a nationwide travel boom, with AAA predicting over 119 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles for the holidays.
Amtrak Delays Add to Travel Headaches
Adding to the holiday travel woes, Amtrak service between New York and Philadelphia was suspended due to downed power lines, impacting some NJ Transit trains as well. While initially expected to be resolved by 10 a.m., service restoration was later pushed to noon.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Delays
With record travel numbers anticipated, airport and road congestion are inevitable. Air travel experts advise arriving at the airport two hours before domestic departures and three hours for international flights.
Key Dates: The busiest travel period is predicted to be the 13 days between December 21st and January 2nd.
