Hochul's 2026 Gubernatorial Bid in Jeopardy: New Poll Reveals Shocking Numbers

Hochul's Approval Ratings Plummet: New York 2026 Gubernatorial Race Heats Up

Kathy Hochul

A new Siena College poll reveals that a staggering 57% of New York voters would prefer someone other than Governor Kathy Hochul in the 2026 gubernatorial election. Only 33% expressed support for Hochul's re-election bid. This comes as Hochul faces significant backlash for her controversial Manhattan congestion toll.

Unpopular Policies and Low Favorability

Hochul's favorability rating stands at a mere 39%, while a concerning 49% view her unfavorably. This negative net favorability (-10%) represents a slight improvement from previous months, but remains deeply underwater. Even within her own party, support is lukewarm; only 49% of Democrats want her to run again.

The new congestion pricing plan for Lower Manhattan, starting at $9, is particularly unpopular, with 51% of voters expressing opposition.

Potential Challengers Emerge

The poll also highlights potential challengers for Hochul.

Ritchie Torres

Rep. Ritchie Torres, a vocal Hochul critic, has low name recognition statewide (68% unfamiliar), but fares slightly better in NYC.

Mike Lawler

Rep. Mike Lawler also has low name recognition (65% unfamiliar) and negative favorability ratings. Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado also suffers from low name recognition.

Immigration Stance

The poll also revealed that a majority (54%) of New Yorkers support President-elect Trump's stance on deporting undocumented immigrants. This includes a plurality (47%) of Latino voters.

This poll paints a challenging picture for Governor Hochul as she begins her re-election campaign.
