NYC Bride-to-Be Mourns Groom Killed in Wrong-Way Crash Days Before Wedding

Shauntea Weaver was set to marry her fiancé, Kirk Walker, on Sunday. Instead, she was mourning his death after a wrong-way driver killed Walker and his cousin, Robert McLaurin, early Saturday morning.

The crash occurred on the Henry Hudson Parkway near West 165th Street around 2:20 a.m. Walker and McLaurin were traveling northbound when they were struck head-on by a pickup truck. They were rushed to the hospital, but neither survived their injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene after the crash, while his passenger, who suffered an ankle injury, was apprehended by police. The truck burst into flames upon impact, and three other drivers were injured in the collision.

Weaver, a registered nurse, described the devastating news she received in the emergency room: "Being a medical professional, I know what 'time' means, that's pronouncing time of death."

Walker and McLaurin were on their way home from a night out when the tragedy occurred. Weaver, heartbroken and angry, expressed her grief and frustration: "[Walker] was just trying to come home, he was driving home and a reckless person took two lives."

The family and friends who were set to celebrate their wedding gathered instead for a vigil to remember Walker and McLaurin. Weaver shared the pain of losing her fiancé and the plans they had made for their wedding: "Our wedding was supposed to be very elaborate as well, we put a lot of time, effort and money into this wedding and it was really supposed to be right now."

Weaver's daughter, Lailah Parrish, also spoke about the loss of Walker, describing him as a man who tried to give his family "the world."

Weaver had a powerful message for the driver responsible: "It's just disgusting. I hope that you suffer the way that myself and my family is suffering because you took two innocent lives."

The police are still searching for the driver who fled the scene.
