Former New York Governor David Paterson Attacked on Upper East Side
Former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson were attacked by a group of teenagers on a Manhattan sidewalk Friday evening. The incident occurred near Paterson's home on Second Avenue near East 96th Street on the Upper East Side.
According to police officials, Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Chester Sliwa, were walking their dog when they noticed three teens playing on a fire escape. They asked the teens to get down, but the group followed them to a corner in front of a McDonald's and attacked. Sliwa was punched in the face during the altercation.
Both Paterson and Sliwa were taken to NY-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center with minor bumps and bruises. Paterson, 70, was hit several times, but appeared to be OK and was alert late Friday night. Sliwa suffered more severe cuts and bruises, and possibly a concussion, but sources said he was expected to recover.
The three teens who attacked Paterson and his stepson fled the scene. Police are currently searching for them.
UPDATE: Police sources initially stated that Paterson was with his son at the time of the attack. He was with his stepson, Anthony Chester Sliwa.
