Fifth Avenue Turns 200: A Block Party Like No Other!
This Sunday, Fifth Avenue is celebrating its bicentennial with a massive street party, "You’ve Arrived on Fifth: 200 Years of Icons and Dreams." Get ready for a day of festivities!
Fifth Avenue Closed for Celebration
From noon to 6 p.m., car traffic will be shut down between 48th and 55th Streets. Expect live performances, interactive art installations, and exclusive shopping experiences from some of the avenue's most iconic stores. A ceremonial cake cutting is also planned. Rain or shine, this is one party you won't want to miss!

Fifth Avenue's Transformation: A Pedestrian Paradise?
Beyond the birthday celebration, there are ambitious plans to transform Fifth Avenue into a pedestrian-friendly boulevard, inspired by iconic streets like the Champs-Élysées. The project, estimated at over $350 million, includes:
- Doubling sidewalk space
- Reducing traffic lanes from five to three
- Adding seating areas and hundreds of trees and planters
This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing and enhancing one of NYC's most famous streets. The completion of the 520 Fifth Avenue skyscraper will also add to the evolving skyline.
