Fact Check: Did 200,000 People Really Attend Trump's Madison Square Garden Rally?
Trump's Rally Claims Debunked: Madison Square Garden's Capacity is Far Less Than Claimed
Claims circulating on social media that nearly 200,000 people attended Donald Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden on October 27th are false.
While the exact capacity of the iconic venue can vary depending on the event, multiple news outlets reported that the capacity for Trump's rally was 19,500 people.
Madison Square Garden Entertainment's annual report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission states that the venue's maximum capacity is approximately 21,000 seats, making it impossible to accommodate a crowd of 200,000.
The Trump campaign stated that all tickets were claimed, and speakers at the event highlighted the thousands of supporters who reportedly lined the streets outside, suggesting a much larger turnout than the venue could hold. However, this doesn't change the fact that the physical space of the venue could not have held 200,000 people.
This isn't the first time claims about Trump rally attendance have been debunked. Other false assertions include claims about the size of crowds at rallies in the Bronx and New York, as well as a doctored image of a rally that made it appear as though the same attendees were present in multiple places.
It is important to be critical of claims about large events and rely on verified sources for information.
