DNC Trolls Trump and Vance with Projections on Trump Tower Ahead of VP Debate

DNC Takes Aim at Trump and Vance with Projections on Trump Tower

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is upping the ante in its campaign against Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, with a series of digital projections targeting Trump Tower in New York City. The projections come ahead of Tuesday's vice presidential debate between Vance and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, hosted by CBS News.

Vance's Past Criticism of Trump on Display

The DNC is displaying a series of messages on Trump Tower, including quotes from Vance's past criticisms of Trump. One projection reads, "Vance on Trump: 'What an idiot,'" referencing a 2016 tweet from Vance. The DNC also projects messages highlighting Trump's decision not to participate in another debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, calling him a "chicken!"

"Project 2025 HQ" - A Reminder of Trump's Agenda?

The DNC also targeted Trump Tower with the message, "Project 2025 HQ." This echoes similar projections made at the Democratic National Convention in August. The term refers to a conservative blueprint for a second Trump term, dubbed "Project 25" by the Heritage Foundation. While Trump claims to be unaware of the project, the DNC continues to tie it to him and Vance.

DNC's Tactics: Legal or Not?

The legality of the DNC's projections has come into question. David Schwartz, a New York City trial attorney, explains that projecting digital signs for longer than 60 seconds without a permit is illegal. The DNC spokesperson, Abhi Rahman, says they are aware of the law and will rotate individual messages to comply.

A Reminder of the VP Debate

The DNC's projections are designed to grab the attention of the Republican ticket and remind Americans that Trump is avoiding further debates. As the only scheduled vice presidential debate of the 2024 cycle approaches, the DNC is using this tactic to highlight the differences between the two parties.

Don't miss the vice presidential debate between Vance and Walz on Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on CBS and CBS News 24/7.
