Charleston, West Virginia Gets Direct Flights to NYC for the First Time in 11 Years
West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) is getting direct flights to Newark Liberty International Airport in New York City. The flights, provided by Breeze Airways, will begin on November 14, 2023.
Governor Jim Justice expressed his excitement about the new route, saying it will enhance tourism and make West Virginia more accessible. He emphasized the importance of airports for the state's economy and growth.
Dominique Ranieri, director of CRW, mentioned that flights to New York City were highly requested by the community. He sees this new route as a benefit for both travelers to the New York area and those seeking connecting flights.
The partnership between the state, CRW, and Breeze began in March 2023. Breeze currently offers weekly flights to Orlando and seasonal flights to Myrtle Beach and Tampa.
David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Breeze Airways, highlighted the company's commitment to Charleston and its desire to continue growing in the market. He emphasized that these flights offer an affordable option for West Virginians traveling to New York City.
Chelsea Ruby, state tourism secretary, is enthusiastic about the opportunity for New York residents to experience West Virginia. She believes this will bring more visitors to the state, boosting tourism and showcasing its natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities.
Flights to Newark will operate on Thursdays and Sundays, with one-way fares starting at $49.
