Diddy Arrested on Federal Charges in NYC
Sean "Diddy" Combs, the renowned music mogul and three-time Grammy winner, was arrested in New York City on Monday by federal authorities. The arrest, which took place in the lobby of a Manhattan hotel, was confirmed by Combs' attorney, Marc Agnifilo.
Agnifilo stated that they are "disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution," maintaining that Combs is "an imperfect person but is not criminal." He further stated that the charges stemmed from the U.S. Attorney's Office, implying federal charges would be filed.
The Charges
While the exact nature of the charges remains undisclosed, Combs is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning. Sources indicate the charges could relate to allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and the solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms.
Investigation and Previous Allegations
Combs has been under federal investigation since at least March 2024, when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed search warrants at his properties. The investigation, which involved interviews with three women and a man, was led by the U.S Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
The arrest comes after Combs issued a public apology in May 2023 for his behavior in a 2016 hotel surveillance video that showed him physically assaulting his then-girlfriend, Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura. Ventura filed a federal lawsuit alleging assault and sex trafficking against Combs, which was later settled out of court.
U.S. Attorney's Statement
Damian Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, confirmed Combs' arrest on X, stating that the arrest was based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY. He further announced a press conference for Tuesday morning to discuss the indictment.
The full extent of the charges and details surrounding the investigation are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
