Cuomo Leads in Hypothetical NYC Mayoral Race: Trump's Popularity on the Rise

Cuomo Favorite for Mayor, But Adams Faces Resignation Calls

According to a recent poll by The New York Times and Sienna College, former Governor Andrew Cuomo is the frontrunner in a hypothetical mayoral race in New York City. Cuomo garnered 22% support among New York Democrats, outpacing state Attorney General Letitia James (19%) and indicted Mayor Eric Adams (12%).

Cuomo resigned from office in 2021 amid multiple sexual harassment allegations, but is now considering a political comeback. The poll highlights a significant portion of undecided voters (28%), suggesting the race could be highly contested.

Despite his legal troubles, Adams received more support from Republicans who voted for Donald Trump in 2020. However, a majority of voters (53%) believe he should resign due to his indictment on federal bribery and fraud charges.

Trump's Popularity Rising in NYC

The poll also revealed that former President Donald Trump is making gains in his hometown of New York City.

While Vice President Kamala Harris still leads Trump in the upcoming presidential election (66%-27%), her support is considerably lower than President Biden's in 2020. This could indicate a potential shift in voting patterns in the Big Apple.
